To meditate or not to meditate, that is the question…

Mar 25, 2014

Great, I started my meditation class today. I’ve done meditation before but recently have been struggling to concentrate on it so I was really looking forward to the class.

There was a small group of us who were going to be on the 8 week course. It’s an 8 week course because it follows the Mindfulness book by Mark Williams and Danny Penman.  Apparently it is recognised in the UK by NICE the health body and it is available through the NHS.  I don’t know if this is the case in other areas but thankfully this was available to me.

meditationIt was great. We explored the first chapter and tried out one of the meditation techniques. Then we were told to go home and spend the next week trying out the first mindfulness technique… which was food, my best subject!  Taking a piece of chocolate and holding it in our mouth to work out the flavours, textures etc. but to concentrate solely on that piece of chocolate.  Sounds easy enough, think I may have to take my time perfecting that one!  Now what size of bar do I buy haha.

This is great, but I don’t want to eat chocolate all the time. I will keep doing that one meditation but will download some apps to see if I can do some more.

Found a great app that pings my phone when I want to remind myself to meditate. At least that way I am getting a number of meditations in each day. Waahey, it records how many meditations I have done and what type.  Okay that’s probably pushing it now.  All I need to do is concentrate on the technique not set myself challenges on how many meditations I can do!

Wow! How easy is it to slip into old patterns. Okay so the idea of mindfulness is to recognise things like that.  So duly recognised and noted.  Careful of old patterns that don’t serve me.  Happy days.

Right where did I put that chocolate?
