Factor V Leiden

Factor V Leiden is a gene mutation of the essential clotting factor, Factor V, and can lead to abnormal clotting in those who have it. People with Factor V Leiden show no real symptoms so it is not normally diagnosed until after a clotting event has taken place, or occasionally as the result of an investigation into recurrent miscarriage. It is an inherited disorder which affects Caucasians. The increased risk of developing blood clots may require treatment with an anticoagulant, such as Warfarin.
