Today was my first appointment with the Dental Therapist. I was having a big filling replaced and, given the escapade at the previous dentist I tried, I have to say I wasn’t looking forward to it.  I decided to do some work on my mind prior to going to try and get me feeling more positive about it.  It’s amazing the power of the brain and how we can alter our experiences before we have even had them!!

So, I set the scene in my head that the appointment was going to go without fuss and I wouldn’t be in pain. During the appointment I would use some trance techniques.  Wow, don’t think I need have worried.  Julie, the Dental Therapist, got it all sorted and I hardly felt a thing.  So happy days. No fuss, no pain and no juggling with Warfarin.  It wasn’t treatment which could cause bleeding so there was no need to think about my bloods and INR.  I was given something to numb the gum then injections which I hardly felt.  Before I knew it, it was it all over.  I think I can lay the nightmare dentist memories to rest now.  I feel happy I have found a team who will help me look after my oral health and work positively with me as a Warfarinite.

I will have to share some of the tips with you that Julie gave me about looking after your teeth and dealing with bleeding gums even if on Warfarin. Look out for an article on this soon.
